Kids Up Front works diligently to empower and enlighten our local youth by providing access to arts, culture, sports and recreation for kids who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity. We strive to help heal and unite children and families with others in the community, and we’re always looking for innovative ways to do that, aside from redistributing unused event tickets.

That drive led to the creation of our Kids On The Road program, an educational adventure trip for a busload of junior high school students who have never been outside of Edmonton. These kids are able to visit wonders and highlights of the Canadian west throughout Southern Alberta on a 4-day road trip with stops at various historic sites along the way (the favourite for most of the kids is staying in actual tipis).

We’ve been proud to offer the Kids on the Road program for the past 3 years, and are so pleased to announce that we’ll be able to provide it again in summer of 2013 thanks to a generous Community Initiatives Program grant we received from the Government of Alberta at the beginning of the month. Many thanks to MLAs Matt Jeneroux and Sohail Quadri for taking time out of their busy schedules to come down to meet us at Dan Knott School, and meet some of the kids who’ve had their lives touched by a Kids on the Road trip experience. What a wonderful Christmas gift for us that allows us to keep on giving back to our community.

Our annual Kids On The Road tip is underway! A number of lucky students who work with The Way In program were selected to go on this 4 day road trip through southern Alberta, stopping at various historic points along the way. How exciting for us to see all the fresh new faces eager to hit the road yesterday morning, bright-eyed and full of excitement and anticipation… most of these kids have never even left the city before – what an adventure!!

When people hear about Kids Up Front Foundation, they often associate it with the tickets we are able to deliver to Edmonton and area youth. But we’re so much more than that! For the past 2 years, we’ve been so fortunate to have been able to provide a road trip experience as well. Kids On The Road is an experience that enables groups of kids to experience a road trip bus tour through southern Alberta and many of its highlights.
