“Giving is better than receiving because giving starts the receiving process.” – Jim Rohn
When TELUS employee Fintan Murphy sent 100 tickets to Kids Up Front for the Too Cool For Christmas show at the Jubilee Auditorium, he certainly had the idea of helping kids in mind. More often than not, though, our donors have little idea of how deeply the impact of their donation is felt. Of those 100 donated tickets, 15 went to Cross Roads Residential Youth Care Association, created for youth 10-18 years of age who come from dysfunctional homes. These children take specialty programming for life skills, anger management and drug and alcohol programs. Thanks to this program, hundreds of children have successfully gained a healthy life in a safe and caring environment. Cross Roads does an excellent job of providing the basic necessities of life for their children, however, as a non-profit organization, they do not have the resources to provide the ‘extras’ for these kids, particularly noticeable during the holiday season.
Through donated tickets such as these, the kids get a break from the harsh realities of their lives, and they are excited to be exposed to new cultural and entertainment events, something that would not normally be an option for them. These extra opportunities allow them to expand their horizons, make positive choices and help them on their way to becoming successful individuals within our community. These tickets make a lasting difference in the lives of children. Thank you, TELUS, for thinking of Kids Up Front and for helping kids not only get into the spirit of season, but for helping them to create positive, lasting memories.
